When my first sister-in-law was pregnant, I made pennants in her nursery colors that could be used as decorations at the shower, and then again in the nursery. When my second sister-in-law was pregnant, I made pennants again, and since their theme was owls, I made a mobile, which also was an excellent shower decoration. Another year on, and one of them wanted a felt advent calendar, and decided I was the one to make it. Following the pattern (purchased on Etsy), I learned how to construct the little ornaments, and how to design my own patterns. The seed was planted. When another friend was expecting, I made her a Tigger and Roo mobile from felt. With the flames fervently fanned by Pinterest, I landed on the idea of making mobiles with felt birds, and eventually with butterflies made of recycled milk jugs. (When you have two kids, you have an endless supply of milk jugs.) I love spending time in my garden watching the birds and butterflies. Nature is amazing, so that is where my designs come from. I work from photographs of different bird or butterfly species, and do my best to translate nature's splendor into the mediums of felt and plastic respectively. Mobiles aren't just for kids! My nature inspired mobiles appeal to adults and children alike. I continue to make pennants and kiddo themed mobiles. If you have a favorite bird or butterfly species, let me know and I can figure out a pattern. Do you have a special theme for a nursery or kid's bedroom? Tell me about it and we can come up with a plan.
